back in late august i had a photoshoot inspired by lottadjossou's jewelry which was given to me by a nice jewelry boutique called ehteäri. at first the idea seemed crazy (because big companies never reply to unimportant people) but when the boutique owner said yes, i was really glad and started to organize the rest of the shoot.
i had found the model through her agency (she's signed with living models) but contacted her on facebook (a good way for avoiding the mess that comes with agencies) and we agreed to shoot this summer. she lives pretty far away from me so me and my boyfriend hitch-hiked all the way to hiiumaa (which is the most beautiful place in this world).
there isn't much to talk about the shoot itself; it was more like a long road trip to everywhere and i just happened to have my camera with me. i wanted to capture something like "a human becoming one with the nature" - the jewelry is animal-themed and while directing the model, i asked her to be an owl (which she is really, really, really good at. best woman-owl i've ever seen.).
here are a few before&after edits from this shoot:
i shot this series with a nikon d90 + 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 which is the kit lens and able to do pretty much anything, but still, i felt like something was missing. i'm doing more and more portraiture and in this genre, a large aperture gives you perfection.
they were all shot in .jpg and edited later with photoshop cs4. i used curves to get the slight film effect and then selective color for the tones. with the first image, i also used a warm yellow color fill layer in hard light mode.
